The Gardens on Anderton began as a grassroots vision in 1996, when Bill and Joy Georgeson, inspired by horticultural therapy, dreamed of creating a space dedicated to healing and growth. In 1997, Ellen Presley and Karl Opelka of Anderton Nursery generously leased two acres of former pasture to the Anderton Therapeutic Gardens Society for just $1 per year.
Volunteer hands broke ground in 1998, transforming the land into a lush sanctuary — from the Rose Garden and Meditation Garden to the pond, labyrinth, and accessible paths. Over the years, the gardens have welcomed countless visitors and volunteers, growing into a place of beauty, reflection, and learning.
Today, the Gardens on Anderton thrives thanks to the dedication of its community. Every bench, tree, and flower reflects the generosity and love of the people who nurture it, making it a welcoming sanctuary for all who visit.
